Virgin Media home phone problem

Hi,

My parents have Virgin Media home phone, broadband and TV and have been with them for about 15 years since they were NTL. For the second time in 2 months the phone line is not working. Virgin have said the cable in the front garden needs replacing and this will be done in 2 weeks time (by then it'll be 3 weeks since the fault started). My Dad asked them to have any calls diverted to his Virgin Mobile phone but Virgin have said because they don't have free calls to mobiles on their home phone call plan they would have to pay for this. This to me sounds unreasonable but was wondering what other people think.

Thank you for any replies.

and sky dish for the TV .. great offers on at the mo... VM are unreasonable on this and definitely go for a better service. I would..

Why should they? They don't even have a mobile network (they just rebrand another's service). I agree it would be nice if they did, but it is not a service they offer on residential lines (and neither do BT).

You have no service guarantees on your line, so all you are entitled to a rebate on the services that don't work, unless you pay higher rates for faster response). As you have a mobile, amend your voicemail message to give your mobile number to urgent callers - problem solved!

As for Sky? Carp BB and an ugly dish on your property - yes, some alternative!

I'm reasonably sure BT will divert calls to your BT landline to your nominated mobile number for free for the duration of the fault on the landline

They do for business customers as they are paying a premium for their service. Residential users can have a divert set up on request, but it is fully chargeable the OP was wanting 'free calls' to his mobile.

    They don't do that!

Perhaps they only do the out of service message now, they used to divert to your mobile on request

No compensation is due - there is no SLA (Service Level Agreement) covering continuous service.

However, you will receive a bill rebate for the x number of days the line was out of service.
