Quick question re unpaid item charge

I bank with the Co-Op and an unpaid item charge left my account today. Quick call to them and all was sorted (the direct debit had been cancelled almost a week before, so no charge was due)
However, I'm curious as to whether this is acceptable? The direct debit attempt was 7 days ago, and I only received written notice of this charge when my post came at 6pm last night.
Is there a minimum amount of notice a bank has to give before taking charges, or not?
Most banks give between 2 weeks and 1 months notice, usually notifying you on your monthly statement from what I've been able to find out, however Co-Ops statementing is so unbelievably messed up that I get statements at random intervals, from one every other day to one a month, they just send them out whenever it tickles their fancy.
So yes, is there a notice period or is it just tough luck?

Unpaid item and paid item fees are generally debited on the day the breach occurs, whereas overdraft usage fees and interest are 'invoiced' (ie you're given notice) because they don't know until month-end what the total cost will be.
The above is general banking policy, but of course your own Co-op T&Cs will explain the specifics of your account. Why not take a look and see what they say?0 -

No, that's not acceptable.
We used to have 2 Royal Mail deliveries a day, first one was usually well before 9am, and then the second one before about 11am - noon.
Of course, all that has long gone, but Royal Mail should still be making their daily delivery before 3pm for urban areas or 4pm for rural areas

Perhaps a complaint to Royal Mail would be in order

RM dont have to deliver the mail by those times
The OP is welcome to raise the issue and it will be flagged to the DO,however thats the reality of staff cuts and duties on overtime0 -
OP - Are you sure that today's charge does not relate to a previous returned item - have you checked your account for the last 6 weeks or so?
Their website suggests charges are based from 5th of one month to 4th of next.0 -

My regular postie has been off this week so presumably my route has been tacked onto the end of other routes. I've had a different postman every day this week delivering somewhere between 3pm and 6pm.
Usually my post comes between about 11am and 2pm, and as I can see that my postman is not about this week and therefore his route has had to be covered, I won't be making a complaint.0 -

There have been no other unpaid items, but I did contact them again for clarification and they said it was for last week's "charge", but it was a system error that caused the charge to go out this month instead of next.
Seems like their systems are a bit cack lately.
They did offer me an extra £15 as an apology too, which was nice.0
