Electrics - EICR remedial quote

Thanks for all the replies. I'm in Hungerford and have found other things we've had done to be on the more expensive side, so my concern wasn't that he might be ripping me off, more concern that he was cheaper than the other prices I've been given. I suppose I was asking out of reassurance, before giving the go ahead and I wanted to know more about RCDs and RCBOs, which I now do, thank you. I'll ask about them giving double pole protection.
The electrician was recommended by a neighbour and has been working as an electrician about 15 years. He's registered with the NICEIC and although I'm not sure of his exact qualifications, he definitely gave the impression he knows what he's doing. I went with him for the EICR based on the recommendation, but did ring a few others for an idea on price, again really for reassurance. If it were the other way round and he was slightly more expensive, but I felt confidant he'd do a good (or more important, safe) job then I'd still hire him, so I know it's silly to question someone just because they're cheaper and should really learn not to be so skeptical! I guess having the person I most liked for the job at the quote stage, come in at the cheapest (by quite a bit) price took me by surprise and I started to question it.
Thanks for all the help and advice.
Update edit: Rang him today, booked in for next Friday0 -
If he has been sparky'ing for 15 years then he's not a 5DW as they have not been around for that long - They are a relatively new breed.0

Given that then,,,, keep hold of him and pass his number on as he seems like a good guy0

Electrician has been today - he suggested adding an extra socket in one of the bedrooms, so I agreed and he's only charged an extra £30 in addition to the original quote - he also confirmed RCBOs have double pole protection.
Very happy I now have a new electrician I can regularly go to for work0 -
The quote doesn't seem too bad although the price for upgrading the earths does seem rather steep!

sounds a bit cowboy-ish to me, check them on electrical safety register. It's amazing what you find out when you pick a tradesmans brains on the job. I thought a new fuse unit thingy was over two fifty all day long?0

You don't know the length of cable required. The route that cable needs to take and therefor the total time required to do that part of the job. 10mm single core earth cable does not come cheap. Anyway op seems to have got themselves a decent electrician who charges pretty cheaply......cheaper than I do that's for sure lol. Good luck to them.
Fair point, although 10mm isn't too expensive
