Speculative phone calls

Anyone have any advice on making speculative phone calls ? Been told I have to phone 10 companies before next work programme appointment on Fri.

Looking for like admin or retail work. Only companies I really know are the big ones where they have jobs advertised online anyway

With the smaller ones, I don't know any to be able to say I'd love to work for them.

Phone book there's that many I don't know where to begin. Just open at the start and phone the first 10 ? Haha

No why use the phone book? Use the net? Look on LinkedIn or Google an area of the city where you want to work. See what pops up

Having said that unless you have the name of a person you may not even get any further than the switchboard/reception.

I don't think cold calling would work as we would never take calls where I worked and if someone did get my number direct it would be 'sorry we have no jobs'. I had no time to talk to people.

To be honest, where I live isn't that big haha, so don't really mind which part of town I work in

Yeah, my advisor has got me doing it as one of her other candidates phoned a few places and has got either a work trial or interview set up by doing it, forget which

But yeah it is something I'm gonna feel dead awkward doing, no names or anything. So just be receptionists I guess

You are only looking where you live? You have to be looking up to 90 mins away from where you live.

You really need to get names or you wont get far.

Looking here, and some other surrounding towns. Obviously taking into account transport costs too

With retail and admin was just thinking of phoning schools and hotels round here. Even if they aren't interested long as I get a phone number and name who I spoke to proves I phoned haha

Not easy really to find names in places
