Cloned Number plate - not police matter

Yesterday I received a PCN for parking on crossing area zigzags, I checked video footage online and found car number plates have been cloned. The front number plate in the video footage is different in design to mine, also my car has damage to the front wing and the car in the footage clearly doesn't.

I phoned 101 last night, the operator took details and said police would arrange a time to come out. Later I received a call to tell me this isn't a matter the Met police deal with any more due to lack of resources.

This morning I called Action Fraud who advised me the same - Contact Council who issued fine and DVLA.

Can anyone advise on what can be done?

You're not in the best place here to seek this sort of advice. PePiPoo has the expertise in council issued tickets , so please go over there (via link below) and start a new thread. They are very busy and it would really help your case if you could upload copies of any correspondence you've received (both sides if appropriate) and any photos available. Good luck.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

Cloning is actually quite rare - despite what is said. Have you previously received any parking/traffic offence details for which you were not responsible? Has your vehicle tax disc or a number plate(s) been stolen recently? Idly obtaining registration plates is not as simple as it used to be unless someone has also obtained/created a fraudulent registration document or is making use of a copy that has been retained by a previous keeper.

In most cases apparent cloning is actually caused by dirt/damage to number plates or non-standard fonts causing a similar number to be misread.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

    .

Or use ebay! They seem to get away with dishing plates out without the necessary ID being produced. Some get away with it by calling them show plates but others are supposedly legal.

I once had a problem with someone bilking with my VRM (but luckily a different type of car) It seemed what they were doing is putting a piece of black tape across a 0 turning it into an 8.

As HO87 says it could be a misread but being the same car and in your area it may well be a clone.
  • I would certainly contact DVLA to inform them, not sure how much good itwilldo but useful to get it reported. The main difficulty with officialdom is to jump through all the hoops, it reduces the possibility of them wriggling out.
    As above, contact peppoo.
