What to do with a 2yr old & 8yr old for birthday, in the evening?

Please help with inspiration for my sons birthday!
He's going to be turning 2, and due to partner working we need an evening activity (after 5.30pm) i've also got an 8yr old, and I've just had a baby, so nothing too adventurous, although I can just watch!

I thought bowling, but there isn't anywhere within 45min drive :-(

2nd thought was cinema, but 2yr old probably too lively for sitting through a film!

Outdoors out as freezing & newborn!

Please help!

Does it have to be an activity? He is only 2!

What's wrong with a birthday tea at home?
  • Make it the weekend? Much easier, surely?
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • Whilst I totally agree with what Mojisola has already said, if you feel the need to do something why not take the family to one of those pubs that has an indoor play area?

  • Partner works 7days, so weekend out too.

We don't get out much, rather 'hermit' like, mainly due to how much we work, so no energy left, so want to make the effort to go out & do something. Especially as so much attention going to newborn at the moment.
Local play area/ pub is a dive, tried about 3m ago, littliest was too scared to go in because of big kids & big one came out crying as the 11yr olds were playing rough. It's set out so you can't see, or go in & monitor as like a loft?

There are loads of those types of pubs, find a nicer one?

Working 7 days isn't healthy though, I hope its a short term thing!

McDonalds was a major treat for my kids at similar ages. Most of the ones round here now seem to have play areas, maybe do a recce in advance to find the best one? You could try ringing them to see which have good facilities.

    swimming pool?
  • How about seeing if a pottery cafe is open.

You could all go in and make something special.

You could do a foot print of baby while the other two choose their item.

If you call them I am sure they will do a special sitting for you, and maybe even roll out a cake, or you take one with you.

You could have a cup of tea while watching them all paint
