Toyota Rav4 where can I get information & Specs?

Looking at getting a Rav4 automatic, 2007/8. But cannot find out anything about this gearbox or mpg I could expect.
Tried asking Toyota UK, Honest John, What Car. No sensible answers!
I have seen advertised a 2.0 VVT-i XT3. Has it something like the MMT in my '07 Auris or an old fashioned box with a torque converter?

Best place is always owners forums.. they'll give you real world answers rather than book answers..
http://www.rav4world.com/ seem to be fairly active0 -
You will probably be lucky to break 30mpg with the auto.
£280 a year tax? Its not an economical engine.
CVT automatic gearbox (called Multidrive S)Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
...and you won't get a spare wheel!0

For meaningful mpg data look I'd look her:

For general info I'd suggest:
https://www.parkers.co.uk
(I'd also suggest not buying a Rav4 unless you really need a high ride height vehicle. If you're thinking of one with snow in mind then getting some winter tyres for your Auris would be a better plan.)0 -
Thanks, it does have a spare wheel on the tailgate. But when was the auto gearbox changed to CVT? It looks like May '09 according to HJ but is not clear. Mpg seems to be 34-39 so just OK for us. Will register on the Rav4 site thanks.0

Where did you get 34-39 mpg from?
The link above says 31mpg and it doesn't state that is for automatic so could be even worse if it is for manual. I know people with Rav4's that get high 20's at best. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Try the Toyota Owners Club .co.uk as well. They have a forum for the Rav.0

39mpg in a RAV4 auto?? Manufacturers ideal conditions? All downhill with a good wind helping?
You may get that with the diesel. But not the VVT petrol.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Just realised that HJ does not give figures for petrol auto and I was looking at Diesel!!!!!0

I have a swb MK1 auto, and in stop/start town driving it barely breaks 20mpg, I would imagine the vvt might get 22-23mpg.
If you can go fast enough to get the gearbox into overdrive & lockup you get reasonable figures, but that will not happen below about 42mph.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science
