jsa suspended help required

Hi am mark, I have been on jsa for about two months now and previously the personal advisor in the jobcentre when i signed on was always late with seeing me and short of time and did not properly explain things to me.

She also was not available twice due to she was behind schedule and i kept seeing other advisors that told me she needed to help me more.

Now in the past she told me my jobsearch was fine as i finally saw her on the 11th november but today because of a delayed bus journey i was 8 minutes late she told me i was failed and had to see another advisor yet again (sighs).

Now here comes the problem at first this new advisor seemed fine then when i gave him my jobsearch forms he claimed they was not up to scratch and that i was not applying for jobs so i told him i was told by my advisor that i was doing ok.

He then tells me he going to suspend my benefit due to me not applying for jobs without any warning from any of the previous advisors that i could be suspended for my jobsearch activities being too low evenm though i applied for and rung up many companies and asked friends.

Now i am at risk of being homeless yet again due to being misinformed and badly advised.

can anyone help me am desperate my rent is due on the 28th.

    Firstly tell us the following

On your job seekers agreement how many steps do you have to take each week

How many jobs do you actually have to apply for

    and finally

How many had you applied for in the 2 week gap?

20 steps each week and because of the job situation i could not apply apart from hoping by c.v sending to them and also rung up all major stores asked freinds with their own businesses ect.

in the last week alone i applied for about 6 by c.v and latest one was today through the jobsite.

edit: he did mention that i was not filling in the steps taken part but i was doing it all in the top sections only but he would not have any of it and suspended me.

my problem is how can they just throw a ban hammer without any proper advise?
  • Similar thing happened with me. I appealed and won, so dont worry. Explain everything in depth and hope for the best. You should have a successful appeal.

Where do you fill in steps taken? I have nothing on the sheet I get to fill in anything other than jobs I have applied for.

How many jobs do the JC say you have to apply for? Actual jobs

he claimed i have applied for too little and that was it he was notinterested in the slightest in reading through where i had actually put it and also i noticed this guy in a previous rehashed jobcentre date he asked me about my advisor and started to laugh when i told him about her always being slow and not keeping up appointments with me so maybe this guy i saw who suspended me is using me as a scapegoat to get rid of her?

Well if I am being honest, it took at least a month, maybe more but I cant exactly remember, all I know is, it does take a while with them.

In the mean time, you can apply for hardship and maybe explain the situation to your landlord?
  • you need to contact the council and explain that your JSA has been suspended and that you want your HB claim to continue on the basis of having nil income. You can then appeal the JSA decision and if you live alone also apply for a hardship payment. Local authorities now deal with what used to be crisis loans - contact them and see what they can offer. Also if you need advice contact your local advice centre or CAB and see if they can issue with any food vouchers. I think - others may know better -that you will have to wait for a letter saying your benefits have been sanctioned before doing all this. In the meantime spend only what you absolutely have to to give yourself even a tiny buffer.
    Good luck.
