Toshiba Laptop 6 Months Old Too Complex

Options
Last May John Lewis had an offer of 6 months free broadband if you bought certain items. As I wanted a new laptop I went to the store and looked at a Toshiba laptop which seemed to suit me until the salesman showed me the start screen. It was Windows 8 which is really more for tablets and other touch screens. I asked if he had any with Windows 7 as I wasn't keen on this new format. He said no but there was going to be an update later in the year which should make things easier.
This (plus the offer) persuaded me to buy it and sign up to their broadband. But it didn't get any easier and I've been using an old laptop which has given up the ghost. I have tried to get my head around Windows 8 but can't. Problem is I have had almost 6 months free broadband which I'll keep on, but I don't want the laptop. Could I argue that it isn't suitable for me ?

    No..............
  • No, have you upgraded to Windows 8.1 as the salesman suggested? Failing that try Classic Shell.

I looked at some reviews of 8-1 but it seems very little has changed for anyone like me. On the Classic Shell site they indicate possible problems with the 8-1 upgrade so maybe I'd be better off trying Classic Shell with my Windows 8. I'll try MSE's computer thread and see how people get on with Classic Shell before I decide. Hopefully there'll be some views there.
    Thanks for your answer.

I've used Classic Shell since I built a new rig, nice, but the menus are a little laggy compared to stock Windows stuff. Need to get round to upgrading to 8.1 still mind...
  • Does Windows 8 come with any downgrade rights to enable Win 7 to be installed using the same licence?

If this is possible and providing that the OP can obtain all of the required drivers for their laptop, this might be something worth considering if they still can't get on with Win 8 in the future.

The pro version does i think. But not the basic one.

Or buy a windows 7 disc and get it installed?
