Is bit a word, should it be bitten? I know bit is a word, as in a bit of toffee, or drill bit, but does bit mean bit as in the action of being bitten? Oh, my head hurts!

Strange thing happened to me tonight, went to pick up my pasty order and this odd woman with a twitchy eye kept looking at me, I had to check I had zipped myself up. Was most odd.
