Morning Louj, I see ThriftySister has given you some excellent advice and links to other forums on here

What you can do, really does depend oin what you've already got cupboards and freezer. And how many you need to feed.
I'm in the lucky position that at the moment it's only me
But meal planning. and keeping to it, is vital.
List what food you have, and what meals you can make.
As you have most supermarkets within easy reach, try to get to their whoopsie time, and buy food when it really is on offer. Most stores make several reductions during the day, try to follow when they do it. Early afternoon it could be just 25% off, later it will go down to 50%, 75% and even 90% off
Make a shopping list when you go, and don't deviate from it unless it's whoopsies at a good price.
Homemade anything will be cheaper than shop bought meals. Pad the food out with other things. eg chilli, how much beef would you use? Could you use less beef, and add say. more kidney beans? Or serve less chilli and more rice?
Try serving up slightly smaller portions?
Do you have to have meat everyday?
Soups are cheap to make, and would use up leftover or whoopsied bread well. My Morrisons takes bread and rolls, down to 9p at their final reduction.
Jacket potatoes with variety of fillings?
Milk is cheap for the goodness it gives you. Consider ways to use up left overs, so if you like deserts, stale bread made into bread and butter pudding costs little. Home made rice pudding is very easy and very cheap.
What "treats" do you have?
Christmas is coming, so perhaps try this side of Christmas without treats? No chocolate/sweets, no bought cakes etc? Home made cakes will be cheaper and more filling?
Do you buy premium ranges eg Birds eye? Downgrade to stores own, or basics labels.
On my supermarket, you can ask for items to be listed in unit price, that would help you decide what to buy. Look at the shelf labels, most list the Kg or litre price of each item.
Recipes can be found in lots of places, but here's one:
http://www.netmums.com/family-food/guide-to-cooking-on-a-budget/cooking-on-a-budget
Just take each day, day by day. Keep a list of what you've bought and how much. Only buy what you really need. Don't be tempted by the WYS coupons. If you don't want to buy anything, it only makes you spend!
It's far easier, if you don't actually go into the shops, go, as you'll see something that'll catch your eye! So aim for a NoSpendingDay (NSD)
It won't necessarily fall into place this month, but you cam make a start

hello louj101.
I am in love with martins budget planner. Every so often I check my budget. It tells you where you stand.
I would also recommend trimming and checking if you can cut your electric bills etc.
I cut virgin tv by a third and only actually miss one channel. I also have free mobile and some free internet too. If you can I would also get a bank account that pays you.
mse has meant that I could I could buy my first flat. I also did manage a new car in 2010.
Too be honest it seems tough in the beginning but you never look back:Dgrocery challenge 9.86/600 -
Hello Tesco People

I need some help please. I'm off to buy a phone instore tonight and have some clubcard tokens...the item is in the Boost thingie. Do I just taken the tokens with me and they double them or do I have to get Boost tokens to use in the phone shop?
I've never done this before so not sure.
TIA

I would certainly agree with making a list of the contents of the freezer, cupboards etc...
Then do a meal planner and stick to it...
I recently bought some pastry, cut it into circles, made loads of stew in a pan packed with really cheap veg, a little meat and cooked the pastry circles in the oven for 10 minutes, served together ....homemade pie with very little cooking time and much cheaper than a shop bought one:)
I've found that when reading the thread, take a note or screen shot of things that compare well in various shops posted and the way people use mocs..
Then you have a list when you go shopping and can look for rtc items that are posted by others...sometimes store specific but you never know.
Use you club card and the vouchers, but look at how the items compare at other supermarkets, ie I had a cc moc for a toothbrush which was more expensive in t than @ so I did a target shop against @ and used the cc moc for the toothbrush, therefore getting it for less than the offer price in @...
I hope that makes sense...
Take advantage of the free click and collect especially when there are free items that can be included... Ie Special K porridge you can also use the codes from the mag online.. you don't have to order lots..I did an order with 5 items last time just for the free cereal.....and click and collect was free on that day:)
I'd also recommend topcashback..snap and save
Quidco clicksnap
Shopitize app and msl for cashback..
I hope that helps....I've saved lots since joining the thread in February....:T:T
Do you drive? If you shop at places like next, boots etc....pay with gift cards bought from Morries that way you can use the money off fuel voucher...I tend to save mine..usually have a good date on them and use them all together...
B00ts 75% sale is a good one for stocking up on gift sets for birthdays, mother day etc...you can remove them from the cardboard packaging if they are Christmassy...
Mr monkey is just coming to the end of the lynx deodorants I got him in January this year...

thank you for you support xx

All you do is take them to customer services and tell them what department you want to double up and they do it for you, make sure you have the matching clubcard with you too!:D
Learn from the past, enjoy and appreciate the present and work to make your future the best it can possibly be
And get lots of glitches!0
