Morning all
I'm miles behind as I've had a lovely weekend and not had chance to get on the laptop
House looking lovely and festive :xmastree: We put the decs up on Saturday night after the boys had gone to bed. Their faces were priceless in the morningDS1 had a little tree for his bedroom to decorate so he didn't miss all of the fun.
I wanted to get a nice wreath for the front door but at our local garden centre they were £24.99  Thought I'd have to go without again but then in Lidl they had 30cm spruce ones with nice understated decs for £4.99 :money:♥ Worrying does not empty tomorrow of it's troubles.... it empties today of it's strength ♥0 -

Ive sent a polite email to the French teacher asking her to inform DS2 that he's not required to speak in French all the time at home and a gentle reminder about how literally he takes everything. So hopefully he'll be back to normal by this afternoon
Im off....have a good day everyone
I can beat thisI was up late talking myself out of buying more cheese (the only available c&c was 8-10am and I start work at 8) so I forgot to reset my alarm after being off on Thur + Fri. I woke up at 7.55 today  and eventually arrived at 9 so I could have done a c&c after all :rotfl:

I especially hate Mondays today. I had a letter on Friday which didn't give me the work related news I wanted
Sorry you didn't get the news you wanted.
Skimming through, some people mentioning toilet roll offers, could someone please let me know what this is about, as we are needing some today.0 -

what a fantastic service john lewis has.
I cant order something on line as its oos.
my 2 local stores have none when I phoned them.
so they are getting it delivered FREE to my home from another store.
I wanted the item (sound bar ) from them as its cheaper than what it is in Tesco, most important to me they give a 2 year warranty. + I get a £5 gift voucher in jan for spending over £50.
thanks for any links to the sound bar given to me before, but decided to stay with a trusted company.0 -
hi midwinter x
can you please tell me how you done this as I could do with some tips on saving money xx......we are really short of money at the momentx
Morning Louj, I see ThriftySister has given you some excellent advice and links to other forums on here
What you can do, really does depend oin what you've already got cupboards and freezer. And how many you need to feed.
I'm in the lucky position that at the moment it's only me
But meal planning. and keeping to it, is vital.
List what food you have, and what meals you can make.
As you have most supermarkets within easy reach, try to get to their whoopsie time, and buy food when it really is on offer. Most stores make several reductions during the day, try to follow when they do it. Early afternoon it could be just 25% off, later it will go down to 50%, 75% and even 90% off
Make a shopping list when you go, and don't deviate from it unless it's whoopsies at a good price.
Homemade anything will be cheaper than shop bought meals. Pad the food out with other things. eg chilli, how much beef would you use? Could you use less beef, and add say. more kidney beans? Or serve less chilli and more rice?
Try serving up slightly smaller portions?
Do you have to have meat everyday?
Soups are cheap to make, and would use up leftover or whoopsied bread well. My Morrisons takes bread and rolls, down to 9p at their final reduction.
Jacket potatoes with variety of fillings?
Milk is cheap for the goodness it gives you. Consider ways to use up left overs, so if you like deserts, stale bread made into bread and butter pudding costs little. Home made rice pudding is very easy and very cheap.
What "treats" do you have?
Christmas is coming, so perhaps try this side of Christmas without treats? No chocolate/sweets, no bought cakes etc? Home made cakes will be cheaper and more filling?
Do you buy premium ranges eg Birds eye? Downgrade to stores own, or basics labels.
On my supermarket, you can ask for items to be listed in unit price, that would help you decide what to buy. Look at the shelf labels, most list the Kg or litre price of each item.
Recipes can be found in lots of places, but here's one:

Just take each day, day by day. Keep a list of what you've bought and how much. Only buy what you really need. Don't be tempted by the WYS coupons. If you don't want to buy anything, it only makes you spend!
It's far easier, if you don't actually go into the shops, go, as you'll see something that'll catch your eye! So aim for a NoSpendingDay (NSD)
It won't necessarily fall into place this month, but you cam make a start
Marbett, lovely to see you again, good that you're reading the thread once more.
Rhosynbach, loved your French good morning for FC, and FC, hope the French teacher will get the correct message across to your DS!
And good morning to everyoneThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work unless it's open0
