GAME - Selling Lies?

Hi,
I just wanted to bring this to peoples attention as I think a lot of less savvy might end up taking out the extended cover when they don't need to.
Now I have been given this spiel twice by different members of a local GAME store, once at the "1 to 1" order check where they make sure you have everything you want on pre order and then attempt to sell you cover and then again as I went to pre pay for my XBONE.
GAME are attempting to sell extended cover for both the XBONE and PS4 at £65 and £60 respectively. (Which only covers you for an additional 2 years + your default 12 months)
The staff members clearly stated that :
I have 12 months cover with the manufacture as standard, I questioned this as its wrong but they insisted that any fault in the first 12 months was down to the manufacture.
They went on to say that after that period there is no cover even though the Sale of Goods says different.
Can stores like GAME really pull a stunt like this by claiming false information?

It depends if you were talking about warranty or statutory rights. If they said that after 12 months you are not covered by any warranty/guarantee then they are correct. If they specifically said that you have no rights after 12 months then they are wrong.
It is unlikely that the sales assistant was lying, it is more likely that he was mistaken.0 -
I'd imagine if a fault was found within the extended warranty, and there is no visible damage then it's the type of warranty where it will be repaired or replaced, no questions asked.
If you want to depend on the SOGA for repairs, then any faults that develop after 6 months, it's up to the consumer to prove they are the result of bad design / manufacturing and not anything they have done. All your base are belong to us.0 -
You may or may not have rights after 12 months, in fact its after 6 months, dont rely on SOGA after 12 months as they can make you jump through hoops to prove any fault.
They are not mis selling if you want piece of mind take the extended warranty if you want to gamble and hope you can get them to agree to you SOGA rights after proving an inherent fault then don't.0 -
They're selling you a warranty that covers accidental damage etc.
If your machine breaks down in the first 12 months, it will be dealt with under warranty without the need for an engineers report.
The warranty sold by GAME, IIRC, covers accidental damage as well as system failures etc, and they'll cover that for up to an extra 2 years again without the need for an independent report.
The insurance policy is also underwritten by an external insurance company, so should remain valid if GAME ago down the plug hole.
Either way, it goes above + beyond your statutory rights.
Whilst in the first 12 months you can go to GAME for a remedy, it is much faster to go to the manufacturer, as that's all GAME will do anyway, so you're just cutting out the middle man.
SOGA won't offer you the cover that the warranty does, so again, they're correct.0
