Household wiring - should I be worried?

Hi guys

I have something weird going on with one of the wall above my bed. When I touch it I can feel electrical 'humming' if you know what I mean - not a shock, more like if you touch one of those plasma balls. It's across the whole of that wall. Its not that noticeable but I've been a bit concerned. It goes away if I switch off the double electrical socket at the bottom of the wall. It doesn't seem to make a difference what if anything is plugged in to it - if either plug socket is switched on it does it.

Does anyone have any idea what it is and whether I should be concerned? Don't want to annoy the landlord about it if it's normal!

Thanks in advance.

That does sound very odd. When you say it only hums when the socket is switched on - is there anything plugged into the socket ? If not, then just flicking the switch on the socket should have zero effect, as no current is being drawn. But if it seems that just switching the socket on, with nothing plugged in, causes the problem, then you definitely need to get an electrician to look at it. I've no idea what it could be, but you don't want to be mucking about with mains leccy, get someone who knows what they're doing.

When was the wiring last checked ? Any rented property legally needs to have an electrical safety test periodically anyway.
