T K Maxx Returns

Basically I bought a digital baby thermometer in t k maxx. Obviously you don't tend to need to use a thermometer unless they're ill. I've gone to use it a few times and noticed that readings from it are always showing different, even within seconds of each other. Obviously a few 0.1's of a degree I can understand however this is showing ridiculous differences. Today I've gone to use it on my son and it's just saying 'high', not telling me the actual temperature. Then when it finally did show temperatures within the space of a minute it gave these readings 35.5, 39.3, 37, 38.1. It's obviously faulty, I have no receipt for it but I've looked and found it in my bank statements. It was purchased on May 7th. I rang t k maxx and they've said if it's past 6 months and faulty they won't do anything.
Is there any way around this? Obviously this could have been faulty all along, there's no way you can tell if it's actually telling the correct temperature. It's definitely faulty and seriously unsafe if it's giving a false reading. Any idea if t k maxx will accept the return even for an exchange?

Do you have a spare battery you could try to see if its that?
The way around it is you get an independent report to verify the fault is inherent and not the result of misuse or wear n tear. However, you should consider the cost of such a report would likely far outweigh the cost of any replacement. I got one for £1.99 and 6 years later, still working fine. You keep using that word.
