Concealed lighting...

I would like to put some concealed lighting into our living room ceiling, my thoughts are looking at LED Strip lighting.
The idea I have is to have built a wooden frame about 7feet square and have a groove made to conceal the strip lighting.
My question is what wattage strip lighting would be best to use?
The area of ceiling that this frame is covering has been cracked in the past and the LED area will create a feature in that part of the living room which is above the seating area, the other half of ceiling has a standard pendant light.
