Lock and key for bedroom door

I wanna put a lock and key on the bedroom door. what is the cheapest way of doing this please? i am guessing a locksmith will charge a lot. but how do i cut costs? thanks

By doing it yourself...what sort of door is it? You could change the handle so it can be locked. That is very easy to do it yourself. How secure do you want the door to be?

I'm also considering getting a lock on a couple of doors for when we are out of the house. Just for peace of mind really for when we have students.

You can lock it whether your inside or outside the room. If you are inside the room then you just open the door as normal. If you are outside the room then you need a key or combination.

OP, just in case you are renting where you live, make sure you get the LL's written consent before you start drilling any holes etc for locks - or you may well find that you get some money deducted from your deposit.
