That's a good rate you are on compared to mine with the Scottish Hydro of 12.39p & 18.67p plus a twenty odd pence per day standing charge.
This is more like what I would expect from an E10 tariff.

They usually have crazy unit charges that make them completely uneconomical!...

    Untrue.

Most preserved tariffs are actually very competitively priced (when you consider the total offering and use it to the maximum benefit) compared to alternatives for an all electric property

(Modern, expensive solutions such as the installation of heat pumps excepted)

If you've spent a small fortune updating the heating system, you should have factored in the cost of updating the system/installation to power it accordingly ;)

That is certainly the case for Surfer!

I have a 2013 price list for EDF which paints a slightly different picture.

For me, Economy 10 is priced as follows:

    Peak 20.43p/kWh
    Off-peak 6.76p/kWh
    Standing Charge 18.90p/day

    and hebrideans rate posted above.

    Not quite as competitive.

I will concede that there are some competitive tariffs out there. Surfer is proof of that!

I am not sure why people think it is a rip off as we pay £0.135 per unit for peak, £0.075 per unit off peak and a standing charge of £0.23p per day. Our consumption is about 8200 units which about 40% are off peak which works out to about £972 per annum to heat a 5 room including kitchen and bathroom home.
I have checked other suppliers and if I went onto standard rate it woudl cost me about £50 more.
    which company are you with?
those rates are almost charitable compared to mine

  • That's just typical.
