I have an acer aspire e1-571 laptop and last night a message popped up on my desktop screen to update to windows 8.1 so I did.

Since then my 3 internet dongle wont connect to the internet-yet I am online now, pages loading and im typing this!!! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 3 software, no change. I tried the dongle in my old pc and it connected and loaded fine.

Yet on this all im getting is "connection attempt failed, please make sure your device is connected to your computer and your settings are correct. Would you like to try and connect again". Same message everytime. I haven't changed any settings that I know of, unless the update has changed something??

Can anyone shed any light on why my pages are loading when the dongle wont connect?! Oh the light on the dongle is the solid blue colour I get when its connected......

You could look in Device Management, find the Dongle and look at Properties. Then try to update the driver.

OK, try doing the same for your Network Adapter in Device Manager. If that driver is up to date too then I'm out of ideas I'm afraid.

ETA: Oh, the other thing you might try is Right Click on the network connection icon in the task bar (bottom right of screen) and select Troubleshoot Problems and see if Windows can find a solution.

It's connecting because it isn't using the 3 connection software to connect :)

    Look here
  • is that something to do with windows 8.1?? how is it connecting lol? sorry, this has been baffling me all day :) x

You can connect this way with all modern OS, once the basic Drivers have been installed. The connection software interface is superfluous.
