Uniform Dating - Recurring Payment

I signed up with Uniform dating.com because I am a medic and wanted to meet someone with similar interests (yes, people do sign up for that reason) . I signed up for a month on the condition that if I cancelled the contract within the months no further payments would be taken. This a WARNING to other people thinking of subscribing to this site. They make it virtually impossible to cancel and continue taking payments out of your bank account by a recurring payment. When I tried to cancel online, having filled out some details, it told me that in order to complete the cancellation I had to phone a number. The number takes AGES to be answered and when it is you are put through to one of the great CALL CENTRES (chinese lady so it must be abroad). They say that the call are recorded but they are definitely not. Having called this number to complain for a second time that I wanted the account cancelled I was told that it would be but they CONTINUED to take out £29.99 a month. When I emailed to complain they just kept ignoring the fact that I had tried to cancel it because according to their records there is NO RECORD of my phonecalls, even though I have the number on my phone bill. This company is a complete rip off. They are now offering me 3 months free dating as a good will gesture when I had no intention of remaining on the site for longer that the month. There is no way I could have afforded to pay this per month for a dating site. The agreement was that I would be able to cancel it. I am now having to CLOSE my BANK ACCOUNT in order that they cannot keep taking out this money. There are forums on Google where other people are experiencing exactly the same problem. Does anyone know if there is an Ombudsman which covers companies like this which people can complain to ? Please be warned if you are thinking of joining this site as it is a NIGHTMARE to cancel. Even though I have asked for my whole account to be deleted they have just "suspended" it

Send a copy of the email you sent to them to your card issuer.
Also send a copy of your phone log/statement showing you called them, to your card issuer.
Your card issuer can cancel the Continuous Payment Authority and refund any money taken after the date of cancellation.
Ombudsman?
We have H.M. Courts Service to ultimately resolve these cases.

P.s. are there no Chinese ladies in this country then?0 -
You don't need to close your bank account. Simply instruct your bank not to make any more payments to them. The bank is required to follow your instructions. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
