Buying a house with a Cesspool/Cesspit! Should we do it?

Myself and my wife are currently going through the process of buying a new house. We have received the property information form from our solicitor and it indicates that the property has a cesspool/cesspit. We have no knowledge of what a cesspool/cesspit does? The maintenance it requires? The costs of emptying? Any info would be greatly appreciated:)

We are doing the same. House has a 2000 gallon brick built cesspool which they say is emptied every 2 months at £95 per visit. Bare in mind you wont have to pay waste water rates, ours are £360 so not that much dearer. A cesspool is just a holding tank with no outlet. If you have a septic tank that is completely different and due to it draining in a soak-away is probably only emptied once a year at most.
It put me off at first but after looking into it its not so bad. Depending where you are you could always convert to a septic take if you wanted, I looked into this but because of where I am this can`t be done.0
