What remedy would they like? Obviously they're not going to get £1000+ off consumer hardware for £170 including a years worth of data, so their best option is to be returned to the position pre agreement. If that is all they press for, I can't see that being too big a deal if within 7 days and everything is unused?0

Thats all they wan't to be in position before agreement. Contract says "subject to return within 7 days" but there is a line purposly written before printing the papers saying no returns.

Not sure what you mean? Are you saying the contract has conflicting, contradictory terms printed on it? That sounds like it'll play to your favour. Have you tried calling the Three head office - they may not be impressed if shop staff are trying to override their corporately agreed contracts.0 -
Any term simply stating "no returns" and nothing further would be illegal - since it is misleading to consumers about their rights.
Any type of credit agreement usually comes with a cooling off period.
Personally if I were them, I'd get my complaint in writing - even email - briefly outlining the problem and saying what solution I wanted. If nothing else, it will give you a sort of proof that the items were rejected right away because they were not the goods they were expecting to receive.
I'd point out that using an ipad mini as a demonstration tool for other tablets is misleading and that a less understanding customer may think they are deliberately using bait and switch techniques. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
