Argos Faulty Iron 14 -15 months old - what are my rights?

Hi all,
Before I go marching into Argos, I could do with some advice please. My iron has stopped working after buying it back in September 2012. Can they say that it is out of warranty so not covered?
Can I say that you can reasonably expect an iron to last a couple of years? Or is an annual purchase of iron the norm?!
Thanks

How much did you pay for it? Anything under £25 I would say is a basic one and a year is reasonable, if it was £60 I would expect it to last a few years.

It would also depend how often it is used, my own iron was around £40 and is seven years old but I only use it once a month for proper ironing and just work shirts regularly (and even then only if they need it badly). Other people iron every day so it won't last as long.
  • Thanks FosterDog for your reply.

Paid £20 for it. Used about 10 minutes max every day for work clothes.

Trust it to only last just over a year!

I'm surprised you asked that on here then said it was only £20! I would say you got your moneys worth.

I would say go into Argos and tell them that it has failed show them your receipt and take it from there.

Tell the you expected it to last a couple of years at least.

You never know, they just may give you a new iron.

My experience with argos returns has always been good.

If it was within 12 months, you wouldn't have any problem, as it falls with in their store policy.

Over 12 months, you still have your statutory rights.

However, I would agree with others, a £20 iron, that is used daily, has lasted a reasonable length of time, in 14 months.

Still, if you don't think it is reasonable, it may be worth taking it back and see what they say.
