Can MSE person please respond
Hi - I am looking to switch my dual fuel. When I do a comparison I get the message congratulations you are on a great deal. All deals below this show that I would be worse off if I was to change my contract to another supplier. However my deal ends at the end of December and at that time I will not be on a good deal.
When I started the comparison it did state that it would be using the new prices which come into effect after the price rises, but it does not appear to have done this. Is there a glitch in the system please.
I am assuming that I will receive an email from you as part of the background monitoring, but will these only start to arrive once my existing deal ends. There is no exit penalty if I leave now, but I am concerned that if I wait until the end of Dec the prices may go up even higher.
Please confirm if there is a glitch - many thanks

I have exactly the same problem and also started a thread asking about this and nobody could help.0

Hi JD87 I saw your thread and mentioned on it that I had same problem - hence I thought I would try again. I am assuming that it is because our current deals have not ended yet, but I agree it did say that they were using the new Energy prices so I don't understand it. I would have expected it show what our new charges would be from our existing supplier and compare against others. I am not sure if MSE reps will respond, fingers crossed x0

Your current deals are better than the new energy prices that come into place before the end of the year. It's better than any available tariff because it's an old tariff with old rates.
The best way to compare would be to use the tariff you'll revert to once yours expires, usually the company's standard variable tariff. As you'll be reverting to it anyway, you'll be able to see what the best available option is to move on to.0

Thanks ExtraMask - I guess I should have realised that, it was just the fact that it did say that it was going to use the new rates that made me assume it would. thanks0

Well I tried the above suggestion by ExtraMask but sadly it doesn't given the correct results either - because the terms that come up for the standard tariff (which is what is will move to when the current tariff expires) is not correct. (Therefore, I don't know if all the unit prices are correct either). For instance it says there would be no exit fee, but according to the energy supplier there will be. I know that I could factor this is, but it still seems that the calculator on here is not right and I would welcome the opinion of MSE representative. Many thanks - is there a glitch?0

Guess MSE representatives don't bother to try and assist. Shame as the idea is good, but it would help if it was a little more interactive - still I know not to ask again.0

This forum is far too big for MSE to contribute to every thread. They administer it the best they can but even then it can be slow to get spam messages removed.
There is no standard tariff out there that has an exit fee. I invite you to correct me, but I'd be astonished if I'm wrong.0

Hi - you are right, my error on that. The exit fee from the new proposed tariff that Scottish Power were suggesting - I misread it.
I still think that the calculator is very misleading - If I take no action before the end of the month I move on to a standard tariff which is a lot more than I currently pay.
If I put my current tariff in to the calculator (which is going to end at the end of Dec) the calculator says that I am on a great tariff and no need to change - yet the MSE calculator says that it takes into account the new price increases.
It is no use waiting until the end of December to start the switch process as it takes approximately 4-6 weeks (or even longer at the present time).
I gather that at the end of December the CEC will send emails suggesting that I need to switch to a cheaper supplier, but if they are factoring in price increases already in the calculator, I feel that it would have been helpful if they also factored in the additional costs due to the ending of the original contract.
I am obviously on my own in thinking this way, I also wrongly thought that MSE reps may answer a query, but at least I now know not to bother asking them again.
I do appreciate the replies I have received from the members of this forum - thanks0

According to Google Analytics, MSE attracted around 39 million unique visitors and 277m page impressions in the year ending 31 October 2011. It will be more by this year but as 'Bluebirdman of Alcathays' said at 277+ million per year perhaps they might have missed your post obidashi.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
