    Am glad it worked.
As for cat, nothing too serious, just draining of abscess. Unfortunately has to put up with one of those lampshade collars for the time being.

Format c: from a boot disk.

Then either restore a factory disk or a version of windows, time involved about 2 hours and everything will be gone.

One word of warning if not using a factory restore make sure you have all the dirivers for your system, and a valid Microsoft key if installing windows..

The above is what I would do.

The thing is, just formatting the drive and installing windows doesn't prevent previous data being recovered from the hard drive.

    Hello Jasmin,
did you know even if you wipe your hardrive - 98% of the time the data can be recovered?

you should make your life easier by getting yourself a new cheap hard drive to put in the computer to sell it on. Then when trying to get rid of your data on your old hard drive, take drastic steps.
    Smash it with a hammer!
its the only way to ensure your data is kept secret :D

Ummm that's the whole point of this thread with using DBAN. I doubt very much if any of it is recoverable after using that. The OP started off by saying they had decided to SELL the hard drive, not very moneysaving to simply destroy it. Also you're pretty much repeating what I posted just before about only wiping the hard drive normally!

WRONG! There are much more civil ways...

I've not used dban so obvioulsy haven't attempted recovery afterwards, but think I will give it a crack when I have some free lab time! I always like a good ol' challenge!

It does seem to have all the right buzz words on the feature list, so I will report back.... Watch this space!
