Parking all day in York

Hello,

Not sure if this is the right thread for this or not but we have a day in York planned next week (mid-week) and I was wondering where the best place to park all day is without spending a fortune? There are 4 adults and one baby plus buggy so a bus in (as in the park and ride) may not be the best fun, I imagine this gets really busy?

Thanks

Do NOT use the sat nav in York Centre !
It will take you to the Honey Trap known as Lendel Bridge where you get fined for driving over one of the few bridges in to York and again coming home.

You can often find free on-street parking near the race course streets and walk, it's all flat.
    Be happy...;)

The park & ride really is your best bet. York really has this sorted with 5 routes and car parks at N/S/E/W of the city. It can get busy but they are so frequent (10 mins) then it's no great problem to get the next one if it's quite full. They have dedicated pushchair/wheelchair area near the front too. After 10 am and before 3:30-4:00 pm isn't too bad.

Do NOT attempt to drive around York if you don't know it well - as spacey2012 said there is at least one "honeytrap"/ council money-maker / poorly signed bus only lane, such as the new one on Lendel Bridge, previously a major car route into the city centre! They are making thousands of £ out of unwary motorists there!!

Park and ride is easy and it is never really busy, especially mid week. £2.60 each return.

If you want long stay nearer the centre there is parking at York Railway station which can be booked online, but availability is limited.

Did York today, Askham Bar Park & Ride. At 10:20 there were just a dozen of us on a whole "bendy-bus" going into town, and just half a dozen going back at 2:40.

There is a list of York City Council car park here: http://www.york.gov.uk/info/200233/car_parks/324/car_parks/9 These are generally the cheaper than other car parks but compared to other northern cites are still quite expensive.
  • I usually park on Ambrose Street. And walk down the river.

Please don't do this as it's usually in front of someone's house, like mine and although most visitors see it as a 'one off' it gets pretty tedious when you struggle to park anywhere near your own house each weekend.

Hi on the same subject we have booked the Queens hotel 27th Dec to 30th . Booked parking with the hotel 28th and 29th but no availability 27th. It will be roughly from 2pm on 27th to 11am 28th. Anything cheap near here?
    Thanks

You are opposite the Lowther across the river. Nice place for a pint.

The solution to that is a controlled parking zone.
