Windscreen wipers

Mine have been annoying me for some time, squeaking and a bit of skipping when they are on, and they have been quite noisy when its been raining. I bought a set of michelin hybrid stealth wipers to replace them and I am very very impressed. They are super quiet and really do clear the screen very well indeed.

They are admittedly a bit expensive, but so far I think they have been worth every penny.

Please for you Mike. Are they the flatblade kind? Not keen on these myself, as a retrofit option.

did you try simply cleaning the old wiper rubbers and the screen with vinegar before shelling out for the new ones?
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
  • Sorry to highjack a thread but just a quick question, my wipers were stuck to the windscreen this morning as the screen was frozen and I accidentially activated them () will this have damaged the rubber significantly or can I get away without replacing them for now?

They are still clearing the screen ok but I don't want grit getting under them and causing scratches and what not.

You are more likely to have damaged the wiper motor and linkage.

If they are over a year old just get new blades anyway.

I was looking for new wiper blades for mine (old ones were properly shot) and was staggered by the prices for new ones. Lidl were doing pairs of blades for (I think) about £3.99 a pair, so I took a punt. They work absolutely fine. The only drawback was that they didn't have the exact lengths I needed - the passenger side is an inch too short. I can't say I notice it. I bought them as a stopgap until I could get some proper ones, but now I am going to leave them on and see how long they last.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.
  • I bought a new wiper for my car - Mondeo Mk 4 Estate. Driver's side only - £17. Halfords don't stock them. That's motor factor price.

But - it's perfect. Silent and cleans the screen.

Is any vinegar suitable? White, brown?

  • They aren't flatblade/aero no, I have put them n a previous car and I didn't like them much. These are a hybrid, part aero, part something else. I used them today on my motorway drive to work in the rain and there was no noise, literally no noise at all- they are marvellous, the best I have ever had, and they clean the windscreen of drizzle, road spray and muck beautifully.
