  • Hi and congratulations!
Just saw what you said about your ring - do you have any Tesc0 clubcard vouchers? We had been saving ours - I wanted a 2mm plain white gold ring and from G0ldsmiths this was 119 - with 30 pounds of tesco vouchers = free!!!!
    Worth looking into x

That is genius! Thank you, will mention to my H2B that he needs to sort his clubcard and points out. Haha.

Thank you, definitely worth a look. :) xx

hi! congratulations on your engagement! very exciting time.
on the rings.. I got mine from h Samuel. just plain white gold band. and for hubby we paid 6.99 from argos for a titanium band because he really didn't think he would wear it!
good on you for doing it your own way and I agree with you about the honeymoon! we got married in Greece and for the wedding/holiday we paid around 7500 for everything.
theres a website called 'hitched' that you can use a budget planner online and has links to different vendors. also 'confetti' is a good resource too.

Getting married in Greece sounds lovely.

My engagement ring is from H Samuel so will have to have a look at their white gold bands too. My H2B is so keen on wearing a ring, but his only demands are that it isn't bulky and that it is indestructible so will keep an eye out for titanium or tungsten carbide too as Steph also mentioned above. :)

I have been using you and your wedding at the minute and a good ol' excel spreadsheet (love a bit of excel - haha). Will definitely take a look at the others though.

    Thank you. :)

    Welcome to the wedding board!

Agree about honeymoon and creating memories being very important. Maldives is so beautiful.

We have a very similar budget so it's interesting to see the differences.

Awe, thank you. :) I am very excited to be on a wedding board, it was a bit of a shock to get engaged!

How is your planning coming along and when is your wedding date? I have noticed you have a thread too so I shall have to pop and have a look at it soon. :)

I completely agree, it is so interesting seeing the differences in people's budgets.

    Hope planning is going well.

  • Won't the hotel offer you a bridal suite as part of the package? Might be worth asking...

I wish! In order to have the bridal suite as part of the package, you need to have both ceremony and evening reception there... Thank you so much for the tip though, very helpful! I am hoping to negotiate a discount for having a two night stay and our wedding ceremony and 'wedding breakfast', I am also hoping that they will throw in the wedding linen, chair covers and sashes as the hotel have them and hire them subject to availability... We only need one table cloth and ten sashes/covers/napkins so I am hoping it isn't too much to ask for! :rotfl:

Hi, the hotel we are hopefully booking don't seem to change price based on seasons which is a shame. We are looking at early September because the H2B really wants to get married outdoors.

I shall keep an eye out for those flowers! Looks like it could be a great bargain!

In terms of the cake, we are hoping to get a house style cake from choccywoccydoodah! There will only be ten of us, so it's a nice treat without being OTT. :)

Good thought about the hair and make up! The make up is definitely something I can talk my sister into. My hair, however, is far too wild for anyone to have a go with! It's very curly so needs a pro! :rotfl:

Will definitely try ebay for crafty bits! I quite like making bits and bobs anyway so it could be useful. :) Will also try ebay for the bridesmaid dress. I thought I had found a lovely wedding dress and for under £400 it seemed like a bargain (in wedding terms, in real terms I just want to baulk at it!) but my mum hated the dress! I was quite disappointed. Can't please everyone though. ;)

The registrar fees are for giving notice, and an 'enhanced ceremony' at our venue. I have no way of talking my H2B into marrying at a registry office...

Where are you planning for your honeymoon? I think apart from the obvious 'being married & saying vows :o', planning and having a honeymoon is my favourite part of the wedding process. :D

Thank you for all your help so far. :) xxxx

We are planning on mexico for our honeymoon, I've been there before and loved it :-) looking at deals that are coming to 2200 for both of us, all inc for 2 weeks :-)

eBay or amazon for crafty bits, I got all my white card for my invites from the works for 99p for 30 sheets. My purple card cost £6 for 100 sheets on amazon. I've found a lovely lady thru Facebook who does cake toppers that I can recommend if you decide to go with one. She custom designed and made mine for me and it was cheap as chips :-)

If you liked the dress and it looked good on you then I wouldn't mind what your mum said, it's your day. Saying that tho try some of the Chinese sellers on eBay, they come in at a fraction of the price. There's a few threads on here to point you in the direction of which ones are good to use. And the same for your bridesmaid dress they can custom make some beautiful ones for a lot cheaper than we can get them here.

With regards to your make up you could go to a house of Fraser and book a makeover session with one of the counters so they could show your sister how to do it and you can get some good deals on the make up if you buy it after. And for your hair go and have it styled the way you want but don't tell them it's for your wedding, say your going to a party and it'll cut the cost, even including trials.
What a shame about your venue! Although if it's somewhere you love you can absorb the extra cost by saving elsewhere. What does the package include? Could you try to negotiate more going into it for the same price?

The flowers I've seen on the website are beautiful and they are designing some just for me. They do one of a kind bouquets at a much lower price than I've see anywhere else. And obviously if they don't have what you want, ask if they can do it and they most likely will :-)

Ooh the cake sounds amazing :-)

What's an enhanced ceremony? Where we've looked at there's just a standard price although we are paying extra for a private church blessing at the church where my mums ashes are buried.

Hi Steph, thank you so much for the feedback. Will keep that all in mind. I am definitely a creative type and find it semi-therapeutic so I am aiming to make those bits myself!

Ooh, that's fantastic! What is your wedding cake like? :)

Thank you again for the help & tips. :)

    Xx

I've asked for something like this
    weddingcake01.jpg

It's going to be 5 tier, the bottom cake is 14 inches round by 5 inches high going up to 6 inches by 5 inches. All layers are different flavours which are, Chocolate, White chocolate and raspberry, Carrot, Chocolate orange and fruit. The smallest is fruit as we're not keen on fruit cake lol

    Steph xx
  • That cake is gorgeous :)

I hope so, tbh we was going to have a dummy cake instead of a real wedding cake so we was within budget :) so winning one has just been fantastic :j

Mexico sounds fab! You will have a great time, so envious! Which part are you going too? That was on our original list and may be a back up plan if we chicken out of the Maldives! :)

I love eBay and amazon for crafty bits. I made some (amazing - even if I do say so myself) hen party gift bags for my friend, got loads of inexpensive crafty bits from eBay, amazon and the works. Ooh, if you wouldn't mind recommending her that would be great. Although I may make my own if I am brave enough.

I did love the dress, but it has sort of been tainted now which is a bit of a shame! Will have a look at those threads about the Chinese sellers. Spoke to both mums and booked a 'dress' day in February. Very exciting!

My sister is a real 'girlie-girl' so I have no qualms about her doing the make-up side of things, she is amazing! Will definitely pop along though, with her though to see if they have any tips!

I think I will be staying at the hotel the night before, so my mobile hairdresser may come and do my hair for an inexpensive price. As soon as you say 'Wedding' the price of everything just triples.

The £750.00 includes; a three course meal for ten people, ceremony room hire (with the red carpet), and a drinks package. It doesn't seem like a lot; I am hoping they will through in the linen hire and chair covers/sashes. I am also hoping they will give us a discount on the overnight stay. Family will be staying at the hotel too.

That's fab, I have been trying to learn how to make a gerbera (which are in season in September) bouquet but I quite like the idea of artificial flowers so I could keep them after!

An enhanced ceremony is what you need to pay for, where we live, if the registrar is coming to you. It just means you can 'personalise' the ceremony a bit rather than just the obligatory and declaratory words.

That is a lovely place to have a church blessing, so meaningful. Xx
