School absence due to outreach scheme

Give a copy of the letter/email confirming the date with a note to say please can they authorise the absence accordingly. Chances are, the office staff collate the absences/attendance not the teacher.0

Thanks for the responses. It gave me some ideas for what to try next. I rang today and fortunately got some one on the phone who knew what scheme I was on about. They got the relevant teacher to ring me (the one that gave teen the info and application form in first place) who said in future if I supply them with the dates she will e-mail son's form teacher and HoY with details that he's off due to outreach scheme. Then if he is flagged as being absent from a class the staff who would deal with it, will be aware of the reason for it.
YES! Result!
um, why do schools expect parents to know exactly what the procedure IS? it seems unnecessarily complicated! what happened to the good old 'note from parents'?0 -
Ha, so famous last words, got a phone call asking why son was as not at school. So, I wrote a letter to form teacher, e-mailed HoY, spoke face to face with pupil support, rang reception and teacher who co-ordinates scheme rang me about it and it still wasn't logged! I did say at work that short of hiring a bi-plane to low fly across the school with a banner proclaiming teen's absence I'm a bit lost as to how they want me to tell them. As I work at a distribution centre a workmate suggested getting one of the lorry drivers to drive a slogan-ed lorry past the school as a cheaper option to the plane.:D
Thankfully the next time he attends falls on an inset day. :rotfl:0 -

oh dear! sorry to laugh - but one does wonder how they manage to educate our children! what a farce!
why on earth have you had to jump through so many hoops? you must be exhausted!
Perhaps the lorry could park on the headmasters parking slot? now I am sure they wouldn't miss that!0 -
Reminds me of my attempts to even get the wretched form ...
I send in a note which said "DS1 won't be in school on X date because ..." He gives it to his tutor who says "you need to get a form from reception."
DS1 goes to reception. "We can't give you a form without a note from your parents." Either DS1 doesn't think to give them the note to his tutor, or they don't accept it.
I write on note to his tutor "Please give DS1 the form he needs." He takes this back to Reception but no, not good enough, my letter needs to be counter-signed by his tutor.
I write a new note, asking for his tutor to agree for him to be given a form, and eventually I get the form.
The form is a request for absence, but they NEVER let me know whether or not it was granted.
After that, if it was an odd day, I started phoning in to say he was sick.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
It's bonkers. I've just had a letter asking me to pay the money I owe for DS school dinners. I pay online, and he's paid until the end of the month. But I owe them £17.10 apparently, and they want me to pay by - wait for it - the 21st July 2011 !!! He was only two then!!!
My friend did warn me that schools were just another badly run government department...

I had phone calls on a few occasions telling me my son wasn't in school when he was on a trip or course. On one occasion the woman in the office said "oh I wondered why so many of his year were off today" then asked if I knew which other kids had gone so she wouldn't have to ring them :rotfl:14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140
