Would any of you lovely people know if there's any software available to let me know when other specified softwares and drivers have updates available.
For example, the drivers for my ATI gfx card are updated quite frequently, however I don't want to have to visit the site to check.

There are utilities supplied by certain motherboard manufacturers (such as MSI) and system integrators which purportedly have the function you desire, but they will only work with their own products. Apart from these, the only other thing that I can think of that even comes close is BigFix.
If you had an nVidia graphics card, I could've pointed you towards the sign-up page for their e-mail newsletter, which would contain just the kind of information you'd be looking for. Alas, I can't find anything similar on the ATi site...0
