My OH and DS (14) are into this.. dS has loved them since he was 4 or 5 and got his first set then.
We have used eBay over the years to pick up other little engines and various bits of track.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I am slobbering. 00 Hornby!
I hear my name being mentioned! What info do you guys need?
I love the scotsman, The issue I have with 00 is the space it will take up (You need a big area for a decent layout) and the push rods on Hornbys can be quite troublesome
If you have any questions feel free to ask!
May I ask what size of area will you be devoting to this?
I just ordered this as a treat, I don't live in scotland but love the livery0 -
A few tips
-Avoid ebay, Alot of bad engines exist on there. Alot of non runners.
-Visit your local shops! They can order most things and you help the small guy (and my local competes on price)
-Look at second hand. If you have a heritage railway nearby or live near Bolton (reebok) then theres some amazing bargins to be had. I got a new Farish Virgin Super Voyager for £45!
-Avoid the Head wear named shop in Liverpool.
Buy railway modeler for your local fairs for the bargins.0 -

Sorry, only just saw the replies.
I got an alright set, you think? I was torn between The Scotsman and The Orient Express, The Scotsman was £30 cheaper though
I think it'll live in the spare room, I was thinking of setting up a couple of trestle tables with board on the top, maybe 6x4? I have no idea if that's big enough! Also it may seem a silly question but how do you stop them getting dusty? Do you put boxes over them or something?!
P.S. Hope you like your train!0
