Hope somebody can help me.
14yr old son wants to pool his Chrimbo money, then build a gaming pc with my help. Promised him i'd do it with him last year and thought it would be a good project for him to learn from, but never got round to it.
Has a troublesome Xbox 360 at moment, but needs a new pc anyway, which he wants to use new PC for gaming as well. He's into Call of duty type games and FIFA but not sure how good a PC is going to be for his budget of around £450 - £500
So before i agree just hoped somebody would give me a componant list for his budget.
I was thinking of buying components in January, maybe them being a bit cheaper then.
Already have a monitor and OS but thats about it. I put a corsair 500W PSU in his PC about year ago, so not syre if thats usable?
I told him for the money he will have, i'm not sure he will be happy with quality of gameplay, since he's been used to Xbox.
Am i correct?
Thanks in advance

PSU can be use.
What is your existing set-up of current PC?
You can upgrade existing and save a bit on case/ HDD/ DVD-RW
Edit - here is the list I come up with
FX6300

Asus M5A97 R2.0
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008RPYB0U/?!!!!!pcp0f-21
G-Skill 8GB Ripjaws X DDR3 2133 Dual Kit - Red

Case - what style do you prefer?0 -
Thanks Cisco, I'll take a look at that list.
As regards case. Smaller would be better, not sure about style, but he's 14,some something a bit trendy if posssible.0 -
How small would you like?
I picked standard ATX motherboard, so the case may not be too small.
Is (W x H x D) 195mm x 440mm x 496 mm small enough? mid-atx tower are all with similar size.

If you want something smaller, best to get intel which has more option on motherboard.0 -
Surely the case is something you can reuse?0

I suppose we can have that size case. I presume Intel is going to be a fair bit dearer?Surely the case is something you can reuse?
No, existing case is broken.0 -
you can go smaller, but it comes at a premium price tag for a example a pre built system
http://www.fiercepc.co.uk/budget-gaming-pcs/prodigy-mini-gaming-pc/#customise
simular budget wise, but a much lower powered graphics card, although if you are building yourself and reusing some parts you might be able to save enough to up the GPU/processor - but be mindful of space and temps!
but it is a really nice looking case (can be had in lots of colours to suite tase) and is surprisingly easy to build in for the sizeDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

If you want intel, I would probably get i5-4430 + B85 mobo + R9 270X + DDR3 1600 RAM
Pro: CPU can be upgrade to i7
Cons: I think FX6300 + GTX760 is better for gaming. i5-4430 + B85 is not overclockable, where you can overclock FX6300 to increase performance
And if you want a small case
ASRock B85M-ITX
Cooler Master Elite 1300 -
Get other relatives to chip in for decent headphones? I have an undeserved rep for "understanding" gamers, thanks to the sage advice I got at Richer Sounds!0
