Broken Pair of Boots but bought in April - what can I do?

Looking for a bit of advice if I may. I bought a pair of winter boots back in April in the Debenhams sale - tried them on at home and they seemed fine.

As they're winter boots I didn't wear them again until the end of October - they are knee high boots with a zip up the back. The first time I wore them out of the house, within 5-10 minutes of walking the zip came apart at the base of the left boot. I fixed it (after slowly pushing the zip back down and realigning the teeth of the zip). Put it down to just a one-off. I wore them again at the weekend and the same thing happened with the same zip after a short period of wearing them.

Problem is - I don't want to wear these outside the house if this is going to happen everytime - the zip comes apart with normal walking.

Is it worth contacting Debenhams to ask if I can return them? Or is it simply too long a period of time since purchase (and I accepted them as being fine when I first tried them on in the house). I have the original invoice and payment on my bank statement.

Or should I just go to a local cobbler and see what they can do?

Any advice please? :o

I would certainly try Debenhams to start with, they may be prepared to accept that there is a fault and replace, repair or refund (their choice). If they won't then because more than 6 months has passed you would need to provide evidence that the fault was present when you bought them, which a cobbler might be prepared to do - although while you're at the cobbler it's probably worth finding out how much it would cost to fix.

I used to work for debenhams they are pretty good. Just don't be aggressive or demanding and they will probably offer you an exchange first or a refund. Take them back to the footwear dept not kids/home/lingere.
  • Thanks for the responses. :) Does it make a difference that I ordered them online?
