Tax relief

I recently purchase a college hairdressing kit which was required to be able to do the apprenticeship course in line with my job. It cost me £200 to buy. Can I claim this back through my PAYE as it was essential that I purchased it or I wasn't allowed to do the course. As I only earn £80 a week I thought it was a bit much but I was in a catch 22 situation. Can anyone advise. Thanks

If you only earn £80pw then you shouldn't be paying any tax anyway!0

Tax relief means you don't get taxed on that amount, not that you get that money back.
So if you claimed say travelling allowance, you could claim say, £60 for travel expenses related to your job. You don't get £60 back, you just don't get taxed on £60 (so you get £12 more in your pay packet for a 20% tax payer. Put simply anyway.
As stated you won't be paying tax so have nothing to claim tax relief against.0
