Credit File

I have 2 bank accounts with Halifax, one of which has been open around 10 years or more, and the other which I opened earlier this year as it was a better type of current account. Over the past few months, I have started to transfer some things over to the new one, but I still use the old one for more, mainly as my card details are stored on websites, people already have those details for payments into it etc. and I have not got around to changing them all yet.

However, when I check my credit file with Noddle, only the newest one shows up and whilst it shows green and up to date, it shows a zero balance probably as I have only been transferring into it what's needed as and when.

Any ideas why the other account does not show up, and what impact this may have on any applications for credit? I am currently looking for a balance transfer card to try and consolidate some debt at a better (lower) rate of interest, and have made a couple of recent applications. When asked for bank account details, I gave the details for the one I use the most. One has been accepted, but again it's a higher interest rate than ideal. I am still waiting to hear about the other which was with Barclaycard Platinum, and a much better rate. I realise this may be borderline due to my credit score which fluctuates between 2/5 and 3/5 for no obvious reason.

Any thoughts on the missing account, and if it would have an impact on applications? Also if the new account is a better account, would it look better if I listed that on any future applications I make, despite it being open for a much shorter time and used a lot less?

Any advice much appreciated.

It is likely the old account doesn't appear because of its age. Banks didn't used to always obtain permission to report current accounts and so if they didn't they cannot report it.

Potential lenders would be unable to tell that the account details you use for an application are not the same as the account they see on your credit file. So which account details you use has no impact on your applications.

The other account not being visible to lenders is unlikely to have much of an effect on applications - although that does depend on what other accounts you have on your credit report and other data on your report.
