Parking charge notice

Can i ignore a parking charge notice? I took my eldrley mother shopping at b & m bargains where a notice is clearly visible stating you have 2 hours free parking there is small print but i didn't read it. We went into the store made puchases for which i have the receipt but unfortunately overstayed by 11 minutes.i have been sent a letter saying i have to pay a fine of £100 discounted to £60 if i pay within 14 days of receiving the notice. The company is private but are bpa members ???they are called paking eye and have sent pictures of the front no. Plate on arrival and rear on exit the only thing visible is the no.plate itself.
Can anyone please advise me?
Thanks liz peat

    Hi Liz,
Where was this - Scotland or England?

These ANPR bandits are very common - a picture of your car is nice, but as you did not agree to the terms they cannot assert you accepted them. If Scotland, cease corresponding immediately. In England, there is a lot of needless busy work you can do involving POPLA and appeals you can read about elsewhere.

For the numbers of PCNs issued the number of those pursued via the courts is infinitesimal.

Have a read through this which will take you through what you need to do to get rid of this charge.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Why the heck would you plan to ignore this when ParkingEye take people who ignore to court nowadays?! Why do you think the advice has changed this year to 'complain, appeal and win', as you would see if you had read any threads...from the last 6 months at least. Please don't say you Googled and wasted time reading old threads, such a waste of time for you but we can help now you are here.

The sticky thread 'newbies, read this now!' tells you how to appeal it and win, your case is sooooo simple as you have a receipt and you only have to go online at the ParkingEye appeals website and you can do it now in 10 mins, attaching a copy of your receipt and saying the passenger was elderly/slower. So simple to do.

And as well as that, another sticky 'Successful complaints about PPCs' shows that complaints about Parking Eye work, and that B&M Bargains have cancelled these for customers too.

Sticky threads are the info threads which (ideally for your benefit) you are meant to read when you join a forum, they are there to help answer your questions. You can see them at the top when you click back to the forum index (see my signature for where to click if not used to using the blue link at the top to hop back to page one).

To think you wanted to hide and then get taken to court over something so simply quashed?! Tell us when you succeed; this will be cancelled by next week.

Let us know when PE or the Store cancel it when you complain and show the receipt!
