Street Parking where some residents have dropped kerbs brings out the worst in people. Those who claim not to see the dropped kerb, those who ignore it, those who ignore a car in a drive, those who think dropped kerbs are for the convenience of them parking on the pavement, those who think that anyone parking near their drive for a few minutes are being anti-social. You could write a book on the psychology of it all.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

    Oh i agree.

I don't expect everyone to know the laws of it all as many folk will be ignorant to it.

All i expect is a bit of decency, some basic manners.

If the tables were turned & i was the visitor & there was nowhere to park but in front of someones drive then i would either find somewhere else to park that doesn't obstruct anyone else, or i'd just knock on the door & say - do you mind if i just park here for a half hour while i visit such & such? I'd like to think it'd stop any aggro before it even began.

And they say it's the younger folk who have no manners.

  • Alas, the fun stopped when the council painted a disabled bay across her driveway...

    :rotfl: :j great stuff!
  • The house I am in the middle of purchasing has a private driveway, as well as a garage but it also looks onto the most popular park in the area. It hosts very large yearly shows and is incredibly popular in the summer.

I am worried about how I'll react if anybody covers my drive. Not so much for me, more for them.
  • I found that traffic cones marking out the space were an effective passive-aggressive way to deter people parking over my driveway.

Another effective tactic is to place your bins so that the bin men have to carry them past anyone who parked over your driveway. You can guarantee they will scratch or even smash parts of the car on the way.
