I've just checked the brochure on the EDF site and the April 2015 looks cheaper than the March 2015 (Southern)?

Am I missing something, surely they didn't reduce the price after a reported price increase?

On the surface the April 2015 tariff appears to be cheaper, but its to do with the 6% pre - VAT direct debit discount on the March 2015 tariff which I think its why it ends up being cheaper. My calculations show this and when I get a quote it brings my direct debit out at £102 for March 2015 tariff and £106 for April 2015 tariff. (I'm Yorkshire by the way for the tariff sheet.)

Both tariffs give a direct debit discount but Ofgem has mandated that the newer tariffs are shown with the discount already included in the quoted unit prices. April 2015 is more expensive than March 2015.

Correct, OP, which is why you should never rely on unit kWh rates to give you actual costs-there are too many other factors involved. Put the figures into any comp site and let it do the work for you.

Thanks. I punched details into uswitch and April came out about £40 deared. I think I will leave it as is for now as there is probably some catch somewhere.
