Opening .msg documents without Outlook?

I wondered if anyone could recommend how to open (I only need to view), .msg documents? Someone has forwarded some things to me for me to read on a USB stick and I don't have Outlook so I can't see what is on them.

I have googled and something called Coolutills comes up but I didn't seem to have much success installing this and opening the e-mail. I am always worried about installing programs that I don't know anything about

You don't install Coolutils here you simply upload the .msg file and convert it to a file type of your choice that you can read on your PC.

Try opening them in Notepad - you might be able to see enough plain text to read the message.
