why have I stopped getting nectar points with British Gas?

I've just happened to look at my nectar points website profile and I haven't collected any nectar points for topping up my dual energy British Gas pre payment keys since the 19th of September this year

Anyone know if British Gas have stopped giving nectar points?

If not, who should I contact?

Maybe because they pay out every three months. Here are the terms. http://www.britishgas.co.uk/nectarterms

You may like to know that BG no longer give Nectar points if you are on a Smart Meter. I only found out by emailing them as there is nothing on their website to explain this. They rang me to say that they are compensating me for this by giving me a one off award of 800 points. I wonder if they would have done this if I hadn't queried it?:(

Like hansi, I recently noticed that BG have stopped giving Nectar points for submitting quarterly meter readings since I "upgraded" to Smart meters. I also emailed a complaint and got a telephone response which eventually told me that the didn't give Nectar points for this where households have Smart meters but was also offered the 800 points. I mentioned that before I had the "upgrade" (December 2012) I had emailed BG about Smart Meters and Nectar points and I received an email reply which assured me that I would still get them as the meter would still be submitting readings for me! The Customer Services guy told me he couldn't do anything other than pass my complaint further up the chain.

Being a bit of I cynic, I also decided to email the Managing Director of BG residential Services with my complaint. I did that yesterday, so no reply yet - I'll post feedback when I get something.

Please do, A total rip-off from BG. I don't see why they have stopped it. Just an excuse eh?

An agreement was made that customers were not to be treated differently. I also am on a smart meter and had already been on direct debit before Nectar came in so never got the points for DD. These have all been backdated and will also be done for anyone else that calls.

I will have to check as I am not sure if 3 months has gone past yet. If I am not then I will just call again and get them added.

Just checked online. I looks like I have to wait till the end of April for the next points to go on.

  • Hello,
I also think it is a bit of a cheek that British Gas no longer reward Nectar Points to those with Smart Meters, I understand that the Nectar points were an incentive to get people to submit readings, but I don't think we should be penalised for having smart meters. They are supposed to be encouraging smart meters!
