Payment gateways

Hi everyone,
Just wondered if anyone could give me some advice on payment gateways for my website. I do 98% of my business on Ebay and have Paypal on my website but don't have another payment option and think it is the reason why people are dropping out at the basket.
I am a bit confused by it all, I think I two separate things, a payment gateway and a merchent services is that right?
I only do around 15 orders a month through my website at the moment so really don't want any huge monthly fixed charges or long contracts, does anyone have any advice on the best companies to use?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I'd also be interested to know why people may be dropping out if you only offer paypal on your website. I do the same, but am aware Paypal don't promote the bit of text that states 'you can pay by debit/credit card and do not need a paypal account.' I sometimes wonder if this puts people off.0

I think it does, I read an article somewhere which said that people presume that if they don't have a Paypal account then they can't pay with the credit or debit card and give up.0

So about 25 orders every day on aveage, yet only 1 order every 2 days comes via your own website? Maybe time to close it down and concentrate on the outlets that are working for you
Paypal clearly works there
Drop outs on your own website are probably more to do with lack of trust in you/your site than style of payment ... at least if a buyer purchases through ebay they get ebay buyer protection too.
Anyway, if you are convinced its the paypal only that is limiting yoiur sales, why not offer the availability to pay by cash, cheque, postal order, bank transfer, Western Union, etc.
I think that will soon demonstrate that it's not paypal that is restricting the conversion of potential sales into real ones.0 -
Thank you, I have only just finished my website and have had no advertisement budget as yet but will have in the new year. I was hoping to iron out any bubbles like payment gateways before throwing money at getting them there for them to drop out.0
