After buying a Peugeot 207cc 4 months ago it has now developed a major fault (engine needs stripping?!) The car was bought from a reputable dealer with a 12 month warranty but we are being told this is not covered. They have already had the car in 3 times to try and figure out the problem, we have paid to get it serviced to ensure no filter issues etc, and also paid for diagnostic check as they didn't have appropriate equipment. We have been told that this will now cost £800. What are my rights?

Was the car brand new or 2nd hand? If the latter, what was price paid, mileage, condition, age etc?
How did you pay for it (cash, cheque, card, finance etc)?
What is the fault and have they said how it developed (ie inherent/manufacturing fault or driver error)? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
It is a '58 plate, good condition (we thought) £5,499 paying £2,000 cash and the rest financed. A present to our daughter for her 21st. Thought we were doing the right thing buying from a dealer with a warranty!
It has always sounded 'throaty' (their words) but when questioned they said it was because it is a sports car?
It seems to struggle to start, and sometimes cuts out. After cleaning valves etc, they have now come to the assumption it is something to do with the timing and the engine needs stripping. They have said that the warranty will not cover this.
Thank you for replying this is causing a great deal of stress for myself and student daughter and we are at a loss as to what to do next!0
