Just received pcn today, was shopping with mrs, long story short she bought a ticket but put (absentmindedly) her own car reg on it instead of mine. I havent got the ticket as thought no more of it till got letter with photos on. What is best course of action? Advice much appreciated.

Simply follow the advice in appealing it as KEEPER, as shown in the sticky thread 'newbies...'
Give Excel the wrong car reg & a copy of the ticket paid for & explain the honest mistake by the 'driver' (do not ID who that was). They will reject but will give you a POPLA code. DON'T then write to same appeal for POPLA. The sticky thread tells all (I hope).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
