Missed Popla deadline, what comes next?

Hello all

I've been lurking on this forum for a while, taking the advice given to others regarding appealing against a PCN so haven't felt the need to post looking for advice yet but now I could really do with some help.

Having had my appeal to to the parking company unsurprisingly turned down, I got a Popla number and was drafting my Popla appeal.

Unfortunately, an illness in the family, an enforced change of jobs and a few other life-changing things that all seemed to have arrived within the space of a fortnight, in the meantime I've stupidly got my dates mixed up and missed the deadline to get my appeal through to Popla.

Because most of these situations are ongoing I'm minded to just pay the fine and let it be - I don't really have the time to dedicate to doing this properly and I'm not sure I can handle the stress of facing them down - but I don't really know what my situation is now and what comes next. So...

1) Can I just send them the £100 and be done with it now or are there other costs I'm now liable for?

2) I wasn't the driver of the car when parked so can I just name the driver and set the clock to zero (did I read that somewhere on here) and they just pay the fine/speculative invoice?

3) Or, in missing the deadline, have I boxed myself into a corner to take this all the way to court whether I like it or not?

As I say, I'm aware that I've probably made matters worse by losing track of which date was which so I don't want to waste anyone's time but I'd be especially appreciative of any advice you could give.

Thanks

Because most of these situations are ongoing I'm minded to just pay the fine and let it be PLEASE DON'T, NOTHING TO BE GAINED BY THAT!

    1) Can I just send them the £100 and be done with it now or are there other costs I'm now liable for? PLEASE DON'T, NOTHING TO BE GAINED BY THAT! EVEN PEOPLE WHO LOSE IN COURT ARE ONLY LIABLE FOR THE PARKING CHARGE PLUS A SMALL COURT FEE OF MAYBE £50 - AND MOST PPCS NEVER DO COURT!

    2) I wasn't the driver of the car when parked so can I just name the driver and set the clock to zero (did I read that somewhere on here) and they just pay the fine/speculative invoice? YES - IF IT WAS A POSTAL PCN AT FIRST RATHER THAN A WINDSCREEN VERSION. BUT WHY NOT TRY THE POPLA APPEAL ANYWAY?

    3) Or, in missing the deadline, have I boxed myself into a corner to take this all the way to court whether I like it or not? WHY DON'T YOU TRY THE POPLA APPEAL ONLINE TODAY ANYWAY, NOW, IMMEDIATELY? COPY/ADAPT ONE FROM THE 'HOW TO WIN AT POPLA' LINK IN THE STICKY THREAD 'NEWBIES...READ THIS NOW'.

    WHICH PPC?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • DITTO COUPONS ADVICE ABOVE:

TRY POPLA USING CURRENT CODE - They state if it is late you must have a valid reason to consider a late appeal so give yours (expand if you can a little)
Unfortunately, an illness in the family, an enforced change of jobs and a few other life-changing things that all seemed to have arrived within the space of a fortnight. Popla.

NB MAKE SURE THAT YOU WORD THE APPEAL IN THIRD PERSON I.E. "THE REGISTERED KEEPER OF THE VEHICLE" ... AND "THE DRIVER ON THE DAY".....

As CM says if there was no windscreen ticket it is also much easier to name the driver and address to reset the clock should the above fail.

And ditto CM - which PPC? - plus we assume you live in England/Wales?
  • Additionally of course you can always complain to the retailer/landowner of the site where PPC manages to get the charge cancelled:

See coupons sticky - successful complaints.....

  • There was a windscreen ticket then postal one - does that change things re naming the driver?

I'll try and do an online appeal but what with hospital commuting, hospital visits, builders and all the other things I'm not even sure I have time for that.

Thanks all, though I'll let you know how it all goes.

Yes it changes things, do NOT Name the driver of course. This is covered in the sticky thread 'newbies...read this now!'.

Which PPC? Some of them are easier to ignore than others! DO NOT PAY!

Was it a hospital car park, if so complain to PALS as shown in the 'successful complaints about PPCs' sticky thread of guidance.

    Which PPC please?

Have you sent the POPLA appeal, you could have copied & pasted one in 10 minutes like lots of other newbies do.
