Fascias & Soffits - Overclad or Replace

Posts: 1 Newbie
I am looking to replace my fascias and soffits as there is clear sign of rot in some places and I have had more than 1 birds nest in the loft this year...!
I am trying to decide whether to overclad the existing wood (with the rot removed) or to rip the whole lot off and start again.. Price difference of about £800...
The house is 1970's build.
Would appreciate any views!
Thanks

Dont have them covered overif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0

Rip it off and start again. If you cover over the existing wood, then it will just quietly rot away where you can't see it.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Cladding = bodge by cowboys0

Overcladding is a no go, and this is a roofline installer looking for shortcuts if they advise you to do this0

Beware some gable ends are structural, they certainly are on my house.
And removal is a massive job as they are part of the roof structure.
I doubt if this applies to soffits and facias though.
I think its perfectly OK to clad providing the wood underneath is in good nick. Opt for a trusted local builder rather than a soffit and facia replacement "specialist"0 -
Replace every time, no argu'sI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Utter rubbish all roofline is structural (fascia, soffits and bargeboards)and why would a builder be better than a dedicated approved roofline team we have been installing REPLACEMENT (the only way)
