Barclays Personal Reserve - how about claiming now?

As with thousands of others, I'm still quite angry at the personal reserve fees that were applied to my account for years. I racked up quite a few of them and feel it was massively unjustified for the following two reasons:
1. It was an opt-out agreement sent by letter.
2. You now have to apply for a personal reserve which in my eyes reveals that Barclays know what they did was wrong.
The first reason is the one that they seem to be able to get around easily by saying that they sent a letter. That surely is not good enough. Has this been properly challenged? Barclays have told me that it has always been an on-demand service which it clearly hasn't been.
The second reason is that Barclays now say you have to apply for personal reserve. This should've been the case when they introduced it surely which I think they can be challenged on.
What do you think? Is there a case here?

Hi everyone,
I know this is a REALLY old post, but going through old paperwork and having come a LONG way in repairing my credit score, Google brought me to this post. I wondered if anyone could offer advice on the above.
Has it been possible to reclaim these personal reserve charges? (Guessing by the age of the posts being returned it's a no, but worth a try!)
Annoyed at my younger self for not paying more attention to the letters sent in the beginning about it and opting out! Posted a while back but never followed up :$

If they sent a letter detailing what you were paying for then they can likely time bar it if it's more than 3 years since they sent it.
If you received charges for doing something like going over your agreed limit you wouldn't be able to "reclaim" them anyway, the fees would be legitimate and avoidable by having sufficient funds in your account. I think Barclays believe it comes under the 2009 "unfair charges" case which the banks won but they do say you can complain in the normal basis, I'd avoid using terms like "legal" or "unfair" however

What complaint would you have?
Completely avoidable and applied correctly in line with their terms and conditions.
Only bank charges now being refunded are very recent ones where the customer can show they are in current financial hardship.
As you say, it's hardly surprising this thread received no replies when it was originally posted more than three years ago.
(Yet another old thread bumped up. These really should be closed to new replies)0
