Laptop No sound at all. NVIDIA

I have tried to connect my Compaq Vista laptop to a HD tv with a HDMI lead. The picture is fine but no sound through tv, only from the laptop speakers. I have a NVIDIA graphics and sound card. The NVIDIA site has a hotfix for this problem to dissable HDMI sound and use a jack/phone lead from the laptop to the TV. It seems that the laptop has a HDMI socket but not the connections inside to enable sound through the lead, (brilliant)
After downloading and running the hotfix I now have a laptop that has NO sound device whatsoever connected to it, therefore no sound for any speakers or headphones. I am unable to roll back as there are no restore points on the computer.
Anyone know how I can regain sound? NVIDIA are a non contactable company, probably because they are just too too too clever to speak to anybody!

Nvidia generally don't provide end user support as it's meant to be the manufacturer (Compaq) in this case that provides support.
I take it in the sound control panel you're not seeing any output devices? Are there any sound devices showing in the device manager and if not, do you have any devices with missing drivers? (shown by a yellow exclamation mark)

I'd suggest un-installing the Nvidia "hotfix" and reinstalling the latest Nvidia drivers (To get sound back)Laters

Unfortunately the hotfix does not seem to leave a programe on the "uninstall a program" menu in the control panel. So once the hotfix has crippled the sound there is no way of uninstalling it. There are no back ups on the computer so It would seem a complete reinstal might be required, back to windows vista 2008, great three days of my life wasted because they sell laptops with HDMI ports that are only half connected to requirements for use.main stream media is a propaganda machine for the establishment.0 -
Have you tried looking in Device Manager for any errors (and to check if the sounds card/device) is still listed in there?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
Try reinstalling the Nvidia drivers.
you'll get a choice of express or clean (i think) install.
Select "clean" (Or the one that's not called "Express") as it removes all previous settings and config files and uses defaults.
that should get audio back.Laters

You need to enable the sound for the HDMI in the BIOS.
I had the same issue when i built a media PC. No sound. Changed a few settings and all good now.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Thanks for all the information. Have managed to get the sound back. With regards enable HDMI sound in BIOS, I can only find two option with F2 at start up. One is disc check and the other is memory test. Is there anyway to edit/enable more in the BIOS?main stream media is a propaganda machine for the establishment.0 -

I have now managed to download and install the latest driver from NVIDIA and now have a NVIDIA control panel which shows it recognises the TV connected by HDMI. But the tv shows "no signal input" blue screen. Have access the BIOS at start up with F10 but there is no facility to change any hardware or software environment.
It now seems that rolling back the HVDIA driver to enable video through HDMI and a headphone extension lead to amp and speakers is on the cards. If only it will roll back two drivers as the NVDIA updated twice once a control panel became available.
Video for one,on 15" laptop, as no external display seems to be accessible.main stream media is a propaganda machine for the establishment.0
