Ebay item not received

Hi guys,

I recently sold a few bits on ebay to make a bit of cash for Christmas and one of the people I sold to has said that they haven't received the item. It was sent out 2nd class (as advertised in the listing) and doesn't have a tracking number. They are being nice about it so far but I'm not sure what the next step is? I've sold quite a few things in the past and never had this problem before.

I've had a look for an answer on ebay but the site isn't very clear or helpful so I wondered if anyone here knew what to do?

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

  • How long has it been since you posted it? If it's only been a few days, then ask the buyer if they can wait for a few more days. However, if it's been a week or more, then, I don't think you've any option than the refund them. However, providing you've got a certificate of posting, you should be able to claim from Royal Mail.

How much was the item worth? Is it of low enough value to be fully covered? If not, then you won't get all your money back, or there's a slight chance they may even refuse a refund on the grounds that you didn't use the right service.
  • Thanks for the quick reply!

I posted it on the 6th of November and they've been happy to wait so far and have checked at the post office as i suggested.

They paid £6.50 for the item so it isn't a huge amount. I just wasn't sure of the process.

If you posted it on 6th November then it really has had enough time to reach the buyer. Personally I'd refund with an apology straight away & ask buyer to let you know if item ever does turn up.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

The Post Office don't deliver mail. You need to check with their local delivery office. Use google to find out where that is and ring them. Confirm the postal address given and if this draws a blank then refund.
  • Ok cheers guys. Ill give them a buzz and then refund.
  • I'm in the exact same situation. I posted an item that I sold on Ebay, on Monday the 18th of November. It was posted 2nd class (non-recorded.)

The buyer has got back to me, and said that they have not received the item. I told them to wait another few days, and that I would do everything to resolve the matter.

I have the 'proof of posting' receipt. Does anyone know if I can claim compensation from Royal Mail for a lost item? It was worth about £20.

    Thanks

Yes if you have the certificate of posting you can make a claim with Royal Mail after 15 working days have elapsed.
