Confirming DOB with bank?!!

Options
Hi there,
i really need some advice for my father. He has recently put a claim in for PPI against his bank.
On Thursday of last week he got a call from the bank asking him to confirm his d.o.b. He explained that they had all his details and that they should not be asking his information over the phone. They then said that he needed to go into the bank and confirm this over the counter. I have told him not to do so until we seek advice regarding this.
Please can someone help with this as to what we need to do here. I do not think my Father should be doing this at all as they have had his details for many years and therefor is there mistake if they have incorrect details.
Can someone please advise me what to to about this matter

Many thanks in advance!!! :mad::(:mad::(:mad::mad:[/FONT]

    He must go in branch and confirm his DOB, they usually ask for proof of address, DOB etc for security.

    Why would you prevent him from confirming his identity to the Bank? His complaint cannot be progressed until this is done and it's hardly a great imposition.

    As it's for your father's own security (and to protect him as much as the bank), I fail to see why you appear to be angry over this.
  • he had already followed the security check though confirming once already??

    They were asking him for his DOB to confirm he was the right person to talk to at the time . How else could they know who they were talking to !

  • Im really confused on this as he completed all the security checks and they still want confirmation?? he has been with his bank for over 30years and has never been asked to do this. I understand that this is to confirm his identity but he passed security which included his date of birth so why would he be told he needed to confirm this in writing over the counter urgently?? To me this is very suspicious and my father is very dubious of this phone call as it was for that reason alone. My only thinking is that someone is trying some fraudulent behavior??

    You're thinking too much. Why wouldn't he confirm his details over the phone ? Then he wouldn't need to go to a branch. You both seem to be making it much harder than it is.

    Some banks ask for you to present an ID at the bank .
    My OH had an issue with this and was very reluctant to go but without this being confirmed they delayed dealing with him even though he had been a customer for umpteen years he still had to do this . It is no hard deal and understand the banks position.

    My advice is that he should "go into the bank and confirm this over the counter"

    Really? So if someone is trying on fraudulent behaviour, why would they tell him to go to his own bank?

    Most banks or other financial institutions will go through security with customers before they will discuss account details. I wouldn't worry too much better this way than them discussing your personal data with anyone who happens to ring them. If your concerned as they rang your Dad tell him next time to get the telephone number and name of the person calling he can then call them back and verify they are who they say they are. Maybe see if he can set up a security question so he doesn't have to go through the security questions.
