Leaking tap

Hi,
We had a stuck tap which I replaced the cartridge / washer unit. This seemed to work and the tap started working again.
However, it seems to be very 'stiff' to turn all the way off and as consequence we get a slight drip/leak.
Any ideas how I can fix this?
Thanks!
Nick
